Do you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God. You are not your own. You were bought for a price. Therefore, honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Men and Women....Husbands and Wives...

I don't know if I've shared this on Bought for a Price, and if you would like more info, you can check out my other, more lighthearted blog at Let's Carpe Diem. We (my husband and I) bought a business in Miami. Oh, and, by the way, we live in Nashville. Crazy, huh?

Back to the point....my husband came home this weekend and I looked at him and said:

Me: You've lost weight.

Him: Yes, 25 lbs.

Me: How? I've lost 4 lbs.

Him: (shoulder shrug)

Okay, how can it be that simple for him? Later on, he told me that he eats a granola bar and apple for breakfast, chips for lunch, and KFC chicken for dinner.

YUCK! is all I can say to that.

It reminds me of the commercial where the wife and husband go on a diet at the same time. On the commercial, he gets thinner. On the commerial, her boobs shrink.

Unfortunately, I can't even get that to happen.

Oh, well! Off to make my kale and spinach smoothie!

Cleanse

In the fall of 2008, I went to a silent retreat. It was in the Colorado Rockies and was a time to really seek out and hear what God had to say to me. During that time, I believe I heard several things...

(1) No Sugar, No Caffeine
(2) No "coping" alcohol - meaning a glass of wine with dinner is fine, but 4 margaritas is not!
(3) Go to the trainer
(4) Go to the naturopath
(5) Do Couch Potato to 5K

It's just out there. That's all. Just documented.

Could It Be.....Satan????

Do you think it is a coincidence that - as soon as I decide NO MEXICAN FOOD - that an article appears about losing weight eating at Taco Bell?

The Simple Woman's Daybook

I found this on a blog and thought it was interesting...and soothing...

FOR TODAY: 1/17/10

Outside my window...there's gentle rain.

I am thinking...I feel melancholy.

I am thankful for...God's provision.

From the kitchen...I smell green beans cooking.

I am wearing...a "Life is Good" sweatshirt.

I am creating...a new life with my husband :)

I am going...where ever God wants to take me.

I am reading...about spiritual disciplines.

I am hoping...to continue healing.

I am hearing...my dog barking in the rain.

Around the house...it's crazy. My niece, two great nieces, and great nephew are moving in. My husband is "temporarily" living in Florida. So, everything, is in disarray.

One of my favorite things...is Mercy. (my cats name, well, and Mercy)

A few plans for the rest of the week...to work; see my husband, and, hopefully, see my step-children, and my grandchildren.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...my husband and me with our grandkids.

Do the Hard Work

One of my favorite authors is Brennan Manning. I was reading his book today, Ruthless Trust, (for the 2nd time) and this S A M E paragraph hit me again. It seems blog worthy. It is written for the addiction of alcoholism but I can soooooooo easily make the leap to food.

Father Martin, a priest, says, picture a guy who comes and says, "Father, I am a hopeless alcoholic. I've been drinking a quart of vodka, a gallon of Chablis, and a case of beer everyday for the last twenty years. I've read alot of the miracle stories in the Bible lately, and I know that Jesus is the master of the impossible. So pray over me and tell Jesus to set me free from bondage." Father Martin responds, "I've got a better idea. Go to Alcoholics Anonymous, attend ninety meetings in ninety days, find yourself a sponsor, diligently work the Twelve Steps under his guidance, and read the Big Book every day. In other words, DO THE HARD WORK."

I'm a big picture lady. I am more of a director than a doer, a manager of sorts. I think that has been one of my downfalls. I've been looking for God, a diet program, a trainer, or a friend to "do that miraculous thing" that makes the weight fall off.

I'm grateful for this book, and Brennan Manning, to remind me that this isn't going to be magic, that it's me, and NO ONE ELSE, that has to DO THE HARD WORK.

Dolphins...

We saw dolphins ALL DAY TODAY and got a couple of good shots. Here's one with them swimming along side the boat...

Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” Genesis 1:20

Tip #91 Do Nothing

I just opened an e:mail that I signed up for, evidentally, a long time because I don't remember it. Since, I'm trying to clear out some of the "junk" e:mail I get, I was going to unscribe to this particular site. When I opened it, to hit unsubscribe, this was what I saw....Tip #91, Do Nothing....Sometimes the most urgent thing you can do is take a complete rest.

That was exactly what I needed to hear, at that exact moment!
I'm a little overwhelmed right now. There is a wedding in 5 hours. I just found out that the "perfect outfit" for the wedding is going to be delivered on January 7. My husband just got a call and had to take my father-in-law to the emergency room. We leave for Florida in 48 hours, AND I've just ordered pizza for the grandkids. (ouch! what a potential set up)

So what I do, normally, in these times of overwhelmed....I eat.

So, today, 1/1/10, I'm going to take the advise of the almost-deleted e:mail and choose a different path - I'm going to rest.

Thank you, God, for meeting my needs in the most "unsuspected ways."
